bramhall village roundabout

Postby sundave » Sun Jan 31, 2010 6:17 pm

now i am ocado man i drive through bramhall village 5 days a week and i am totally bemused and just a little bit annoyed, that the locals treat that little bit of red tarmac at the entrance and exit of the little roundabout, as a pedestrian crossing and just step out and assume you are going to stop, then you get the local drivers who are leaving the roundabout and stop to let people cross thus blocking the roundabout and causing chaos.
please can somebody from highways inform the locals, that it isn't their god-given right to claim immortality by just stepping out in front of traffic because they live in bramhall.
rant over!

Just wait til they get the Shared Space scheme in Poynton Dave! The whole thing hinges on drivers and pedestrians getting eye contact with each other and I don't think it means bad-eyeing each other either!

if anybody gets eye contact with me whilst stepping in front of my car, they will surely wither on the spot

I've noticed this uniquely Bramhall pedestrian custom too. But I do do the eye contact, and smile at them sweetly. Some even smile back. But then they would - they''ve got their way, made me stop, and are usually half way across by then!

Perhaps I'm just the sort of driver that Cheshire East Council are hoping to attract to Park Lane ... :D

Help nudge them all the way across with your bonnet  , speed up the traffic flow a bit :clap

I mentioned the Bramhall roundabout set up at the "shared space roadshow" to one of the "officials" and they had no idea what it was and were going to take a look, those roundabouts and red blobs of tarmac are very confusing for everyone alike no one seems to know who has priority

Zzippy - that's the point my fine fellow. Confusion makes everyone slow up, jitter and proceed with caution whilst throwing the glad eye at each other, quick tug of the old forelock (I SAID FORELOCK!!! ) and be on their merry way. It works! :clap

And then there is me who doesn't "look right, then left ...". So you will all mow me down and I shall end up spread-eagled on your bonnet. :o Memo to self: when visiting England and in Bramhall specifically, don't go near the roundabout.
