The Waitrose (national) website may be of interest; it has it's very own forum which can be joined much like this one. Perhaps some of the recurring questions on this forum could be posed directly to their customer service department. There is some discussion and official information on their car parks at various locations, but whether or not they would be willing to comment on the Poynton development, at this stage, I do not know.

The civic car park must have been funded so far by the rates. So, if and when charges are imposed, what is the mechanism, I wonder, for returning the revenue back to the rate payers?

My bet is that the charges will go towards ever increasing wages and pension costs for our blossoming council. Instead, let's use the money to reduce the rates. That way, the imposition of charges will be a less attractive proposition to the council...

Probably not Mr Meldrew, they'll employ some car park attendants and this is where the money will go to.

A week is a long time in Politics (Harold Wilson)

6 months is even longer:-
Macclesfield Express
July 15, 2009
CHESHIRE East planning bosses have denied that Poynton’s largest free car park will be hit by parking charges when the village’s Waitrose store is built.
Last night a Cheshire East spokesman said: "We have absolutely no plans to make Poynton Civic Hall car park a pay-to-use facility."
Village councillor Laurence Clarke told his colleagues at a planning meeting on Monday night (July 13): "We have had a long standing view that this car park is free, and should stay open for public use. I suggest we tell Cheshire East that we strongly oppose meters at this car park."
Cheshire East Councillor for Poynton, Roger West, said: "At the moment there is nothing agreed about parking charges in Poynton. Local councillors will be fully involved at all stages of future plans, and will express the views of villagers. I think it is sensible to plan for possible meters at this stage."

and 11 months longer still:
http://www.agenda.macclesfield.gov.uk/aksmacclesfield/users/public/admin/kab12.pl?cmte=CAB&meet=147&arc=20 bottom of the page. and why are the reports not able to be accessed? :o
Does that mean that it costs £75000 a year to operate the car park???????? :?

Macclesfield Express
June 17, 2009

PARKING wardens have raised almost £1million from dishing out fines in Macclesfield.
They issued 26,612 tickets across the whole of the former borough of Macclesfield – netting £915,337.

Another back door tax :?

Also Macclesfield had no free parking in the run up to Christmas unlike Stockport who made Merseyway free on Wednesdays early on in December then free for the whole week before Christmas. Macc carried on charging for all car parks, even in the evening when you would have thought that it would be the best time to drop the charges for the workers to go shopping.

The traders were not happy

It was good to see the Macclesfield wardens were on top of the game, being vigilant in the snow last week, ticketing cars not in the lines  , if you are supposed to park in the lines are the council/parkies not liable to clear the lines

And on a legal note if if has snowed and made the ticket "unseeable/readable" does the "employee" have the right to touch your vehicle to scrape snow/ice off the window, and will thay do the whole window to check :?

I should have been a solicitor the law seems to be written and applied so badly i could have made millions

All this fun just to make a few quid, how about making all car parks free and hammering those too idle to use them and parking illegally restricting traffic flows

Working on some of the Macclesfield Car Park charges for upto 1 hour:-
Monday – Library 50p
Tuesday – Doctor 50p
Wednesday - Visit granny in Parklands – 50p
Thursday – Clinic 50p
Friday – Coffee morning --Methodist Church/Civic Hall 50p.

That's £2.50p just to visit the premises on the car park for which there is no other parking.
and £2.50 less to spend in the local businesses.
