Cheshire east backwards parking policy ?

Postby zzippy » Fri Nov 06, 2009 10:39 am

So when do we start paying at civic centre councillors ?

P5 Cheshire east news "Council starts to harmonise car parking" by charging in places it has not done so before, Namely the old Congleton BC.

In it's relentless drive to GRAB MORE MONEY, help businesses ( cover pension costs ?) in the recession, Cheshire East Portfolio holder Councillor Brickhill (or should that be councillor BURKEHILL) suggests paying for parking to deter long stay parkers and make it easier for shoppers.

In my world i would have thought you offer free parking for up to 2 hours to encourage people to nip in use the shops, cafes, library, even up to 3 hours so mums and tots etc remember these are the people who are the heart of the local community, and we have ANOTHER TAX slid on us.

How about the parking is free for a couple of hours then charge to deter all day office parkers if that is your problem, Notice how you get short stay parking charged for up to 45mins etc, this makes a faster turnround in the council cash machines and reduces money people have to spend in the shops good thinking councillor.

Also don't forget you naughty taxpayers how they have slid the pay and display parking hours back until 18:30 (Alderley road, Wilmslow) to deter families with younger children from eating at restaurants without paying for parking, keep on aye on it as they surreptitiously begin to charge 24 hrs a day (See Stoke for an example) so they can slide a ticket on your windscreen  .

How can central goverment have a policy of exercise and fitness then start charging to use the play area car park (The carrs Wilmslow) to deter office workers, surely you offer limited free parking ?

The council are a bunch of money grabbing scammers and how i wish we could go back to the good old days when parking meters gave change instead of scamming you even more

So come on Poynton councillors, what's the date for our harmonisation :?: :ugeek:

These councillors all need to be aware ...

That every pound spent on car parking is a pound less spent in the local shops.
Then the shoppers go to where they can park for free.
That adds up and eventually local retailers struggle to pay their business rates.
Then the local independent retailers go out of business.
Then we end up with lots of empty shops on the High Street.

Tesco rules. OK.

Yes. The Councillors of Cheshire East are idiots. 105%
It's obvious that what we need to encourage local shopping is FREE parking for the first hour or two.

(Money doesn't grow on trees, except if you work for the Council).

I'd be very grateful if people would refrain from slagging off councillors in this way. I'm aware of one councillor who regards remarks like this as offensive, and - if it persists - will join the others in having nothing whatsoever to do with this forum. Although I haven't named him, it should be obvious who I'm referring to.

Whilst I'm all in favour of free speech, I may be forced to act as censor if this sort of abuse continues.

This post is fine, except the 105% comment, which is just abusive.

This is all immaterial. Its really obvious to me from the evidence before our eyes (people parking anywhere they can) that Poynton needs more parking now! With a Waitrose coming this is even more imperative. I know we are reluctant to get dragged into the 'town' mentality but thats what we are and in order for businesses to thrive we need to allocate parking space now before it all gets earmarked for housing.

Sorry do you mean free parking ?

So people are free spend their money where they see fit, or paid parking/tax where the council takes an admin "cut" and spends whats left as it see's fit ?

I have just joined this forum because I am incensed that the council want to introduce charges for parking. I will do everything I can to oppose this and will encourage everyone I know not to support councillors that do not speak out against it. It will not be good enough to not speak, I expect to hear every councillor in Poynton saying NO,No,No !!!

I agree with nedsram, let's have debate and it's fine not to agree with some one, but let's leave the name calling to the playground.

Paying to park at the civic centre, why are you moaning, when Waitrose is open there won't be any parking spots left to pay for.
Give it a couple of years and you will all be asking for a multi story like the one in Cheadle Hulme or at Stepping Hill.
