Before/After school care

Postby esarty » Fri Feb 05, 2010 12:43 pm

I have some friends who are moving to Poynton later this year and are trying to find out what is available for before/after school care. They have a young boy (will be 6 summer) and are going to be in the catchment area for the Vernon Primary. One parent works full time, the other currently works a couple of days a week and so would like to know what their options might be for the days that both parents are working.

Is there a local before/after school club? Or are they better off looking to get the part time hours moved around to enable the one parent to drop off/pick up every day?

I have no children of my own so have no idea myself - but was hoping others round here may be able to provide some info or pointers. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks jbm - I've passed on the details of the school/website and they are trying to arrange a meeting there to discuss their options.

Hopefully they can get everything sorted - at least they have plenty of time to put things in place as not moving until the summer holidays.

My daughter goes to Vernon. They do after school care which I've heard is fine, although we don't use it - we use the club in the village called 'Kids Zone'. They do holiday care as well. We've always found it to be very good.

During the holidays the leisure centre does good holday care - which is good and far cheaper.

Make sure your friends ask about 'childcare voucers' from their employer (they may already know about these), thay have saved me a lot of money. It is a voucher taken from your pay ,before other deductions, so you save approx third - so a £3 voucher actually costs you £2. I know that is an oversimplification and I know all employers don't offer it but it's worth investigating ! :geek:

Many thanks indeed paddingtonbear and oscarsmum - this info has been really helpful indeed. Have passed your suggestions on and my friends send their gratitude for your help. Now they know that there will be options for childcare, when needed, they're looking forward to joining us over here in Poynton more than ever :)

I can also recommend the Leisure Centre holiday care - they run a playscheme in Easter and Summer hols. My daughter enjoyed going there last summer. It's good value and they also make use of the swimming pool.
