In a July 09 Planning Committee meeting of the Town Council it was noted that Waitrose wanted to put the cabling for ticket dispensers in place during the refurbishment of the car park. Most people agreed that this was sensible and prudent step, given the possibility – but not the certainty - of charges being imposed. It will cost considerably more to retrofit such utilities and would cause further disruption.'

Am I the only Poynton resident to have noticed, or believe, that the Contractor for Kimberley Developments' Waitrose project on the Civic Hall car park, appears to have (not unreasonably), misread the Approved Plans, and that as things stand, we are likely to end up with only up to 10 (TEN) out of the intended 27 NEW spaces agreed.

Due to space limitations within this forum, I have set out my observations within a separate website (see link):-
http://smithpg.website.orange.co.uk/

If, like me you believe that it is IMPERATIVE that we do not LOSE FOREVER those missing spaces on an already oversubscribed car park catering for Civic Hall / Library / Surgery / Methodist Church / Old Peoples Home, and now Waitrose supermarket; then we MUST ensure that the Development is completed in accordance with Agreed Plans.

Any Councillor who can demonstrate bringing pressure to bear to try to persuade the Developer to have a rethink with regard to the 'Story So Far', and REINSTATE the spirit and intent of ALL of those 27 spaces (MAYBE WITHOUT PLANTING THE OFFENDING TREES ? that probably caused the mis-reading of the plans in the first place) ..... would get my vote.
Perhaps the Developer will realise that if a charge on the car park is possible in the future, as predicted by many, then those 'extra' spaces will very quickly pay for themselves. They could then 'just do it', without any Building Inspectors etc getting involved.

However I am not holding my breath that this will happen without further pressure by weight of numbers asking for this to happen.
I would therefore hope that many more residents of Poynton will, on reading this, then petition the Planning Office that the development in Application 08/0315P has not been completed in accordance with Agreed Plans in this respect.

I look forward to further comment as a result of my observations .....

From what I have been told, the additional spaces are to be created from the former gardens at the rear of what will be the Vernon BS and re marking the existing car park in order to squeeze more vehicles into the available area.
It should be noted that the car park, although within the Waitrose development plan and the work being paid for by them, is still council property. It is only them who can implement any future charges and them to who any petitioning should be made.

Waitrose unloading

Postby oscarsmum » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:31 pm

Originally I note the lorries were going to unload at a turntable just past the Waitrose on Park Lane, but I have noticed that these two buildings are no longer being demolished . Please can someone tell me where these lorries will be unloading ?
Thanks

As I read the application they were never intending to knock down 97 Park Lane, only to demolish it's garage to widen the gap between the new Waitrose store and number 97.
- see also a picture on the first page of my linked website at :
http://smithpg.website.orange.co.uk

Delivery lorries will turn into this new driveway off Park Lane, continue in past the new turntable, then reverse back over the turntable to the store unloading area.
At this point the driver will uncouple the trailer to be unloaded of it's deliveries, then turn just his lorry cab around and head back out the way he came in; stopping at the other side of the turntable which will have just rotated his now empty trailer, ready for him to couple it up again and head off out into Park Lane. ...... Simples !

Would you like to amend your "Story so Far" page.
Your interpretaion of "Brickwork" is in fact the parking area. Where the cars are shown is the road way. At present I can see that the "Brckwork" to the West is marked out for 11 vehicles. On that basis, I would anticipate another 10 to 15 other spaces in the remaining "Brickwork"

I don't think there is room for the lorries to reverse onto the turntable - I guess they drive straight on, rotate slightly to unload and then rotate further to drive out. .......Simplers !

Be interesting when the turntable breaks down!

No.97 is the lower of what were the actual houses.
The old Petalcraft, Hairdresser and Osteopath premises, together with the Vernon are the ones being demolished. Petalcraft and the hairdresser have both moved down Park Lane, the Osteopath is moving into the No. 97 building when re furbished.
